HIV Treatment Program Success Amongst Poorer Countries

A recent report by the UNAIDS showed that in 2009 from 144 low to middle income countries, 15 countries succeeded to provide the majority of HIV infected pregnant women with medication and care to prevent transmission of HIV to the child. Only eight countries in the group succeeded in providing universal access to HIV treatment therapy in terms of antiretroviral treatment for the adult citizens. Only 14 countries have succeeded in 2009 to provide the majority of HIV infected children with the required HIV treatments. Although 50% of pregnant women in Southern Africa had access to HIV testing in 2009, the success of HIV treatment distribution is evident in Southern Africa in the sense that the treatment coverage has increased to 41% by the end of 2009.
