UNAIDS Humanitarian Services Play An Important Role In Prevention Of HIV Epidemics
Natural disasters, political conflict, food shortages, lack of hygiene facilities, displacement and poverty are all factors which can lead to emergency situations. The UNAIDS humanitarian services also extend to prevent further disasters because of the spreading of HIV infections under such circumstances. It is essential to support such humanitarian services as the likelihood of HIV infection spreading increases during post emergency situations. With more than 35% of the world’s HIV infections recorded in the Southern Africa, the need for even more humanitarian services in the region becomes eminent. The UNAIDS RST ESA has developed a range of media related products to increase awareness of HIV and to influence decision making by governments in this respect.
