A PSA -Prostate Specific Antigen – test is an important diagnostic tool for detecting a chemical which could signify the presence of prostate cancer, and patients suited for Brachytherapy are those where there is a low chance of spread of cancer cells outside the prostate gland.

Brachytherapy is one of the most common treatment for localized prostatic cancer, and for good reason -

  • only one night necessary in hospital
  • patient leaves hospital with no catheter
  • no blood transfusions
  • risk of erectile dysfunction is lower than that with surgery
  • likelihood of urine incontinence lower than after surgery
